QUATTRO CORDE
Czech string amateur orchestra
What was originally the student orchestra of the Music School of Prague 1 has been performing under the name “Quattro Corde“ for some 40 years. The current players come from many music schools in Prague and represent many non-musical professions. In the years of its existence, the orchestra has given over 200 concerts in Prague and the wider Czech Republic, and also abroad. It has studied over 150 works. A significant aspect of its activity is its charitable work in the form of benefit concerts.
Today Quattro Corde is one of the leading Czech amateur groups. For over 30 years its artistic director and conductor has been Jiří Kubík, a graduate of Prague Music Academy, where he studied under the conductor Václav Neumann and, in 1990, assistant to the chief conductor of the Czech Philharmonic. His extensive conducting experience with a range of symphonic and chamber ensembles is invaluable for the orchestra. He is currently conductor of the Band of Prague Castle Guard and the Czech Police.
